Cocktails in Care Homes

A decade of creative fizz – helping care home staff, volunteers, residents and families transform quiet lounges into vibrant, social party spaces

Dressing up for a night on the tiles - at home

Evenings in care homes can be quiet and lonely, so between 2010 and 2020, Magic Me hosted dozens of cocktail parties in care homes in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Islington, Southwark, Waltham Forest and Westminster. Each party transformed the home with decorations based on a different theme every month. Artists and creative partners brought the magic – we worked with the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, resident DJs and magicians. Care home staff told us that after a party, the mood in homes was brighter and lighter for days afterwards.

Cocktails in Care Homes was a 2010-2020 project, developed and supported by many individual donors, corporate partners and Trusts & Foundation funding. While the project concluded in 2020, the model of high-energy, volunteer-led social care continues to influence our current work. Learn more about how to support our work below.
