I feel like you don't know what will happen after finishing school. From this project I started thinking “I wanna do even more than law” or something... “I want to help the community”.
A longstanding collaboration between local girls’ schools and older women from Tower Hamlets. Participants explore issues through poetry, movement and visual arts, then create mini-documentaries.
Older and younger women (students from Mulberry School for Girls, Connaught School for Girls) came together to share stories, insights and reflections on the challenges women face – and overcome – across generations. Mary Wollstonecraft, Greta Thunberg and a good spread of mothers and grandmothers provide inspiration.
Her Story, Our Inspiration won Best Intergenerational Project with Under 20s at the national Age Friendly Awards 2025.
Working once again with our artists Chuck, Laila, Charlene and Sue, a new cohort of participants explore the histories of local East End heroines in a mini-documentary.
Voices Across Time uses oral history and digital storytelling techniques to bridge the gap between generations, allowing younger and older women to amplify voices that often go unheard.
The film shows an exchange of talismanic items from dresses and teddies to prayer-books and tasbihs to begin the intergenerational conversation; followed by studies of inspiring local heroines including Annie Besant, Josie Woods and Louisa Martindale.
You will be able to watch Voices Across Time after its local premiere screening in mid March.
Our film collaborations are regularly screened at the annual conferences for Global Girl Leading, the changemaking initiative set up after a visit from former First Lady Michelle Obama to Mulberry School for Girls.
