Following our successful Weekend at Wilton’s project, in 2013 we produced an intergenerational performance at the iconic Hoxton Hall to present the work three intergenerational groups had been working on since January.

Songlines brought together over 60 participants to explore the aboriginal notion of singing the landscape into existence. Using this as a starting point, the groups mapped the local area (East London) and identified special places for the community. At the end of the project, the group took over Hoxton Hall where they sang East London into existence to a full house.

Magic Me collaborated with Spitalfields Music on this project and the performance was presented as part of the Spitalfields Music Summer Festival.

Partnerships

John Scurr Primary School and Pat Shaw House

Year 4 students worked with care home residents from Pat Shaw House, composer, Julian West and film maker, Eloise Rees. They created an abstract film work, with original songs written by the participants.

Shapla Primary School and Sonali Day Centre

Shapla primary school teamed up with local older people from Sonali Day Centre and worked with musician, Verity Standen and photographer, Liane Harris. Together they created a vocal piece created from ‘sound walks’ of the local area, with drawings and photographs of their homes creating a visual backdrop.

Osmani School and The Sundial Centre

Year 5 students from Osmani School teamed up with Sundial Centre users and other locals and worked with musician, Roshi Nasehi and creative writer, Surya Turner. They created a series of poems and lullabies, performed live with Roshi and musicians from Spitalfields Music.
