We are so grateful to everyone who has donated, your support really does mean a lot to us and will allow us to continue building a brighter, more creative and well-connected community for our younger and older people.

Captain Tom 100

On Friday 30th April through to Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May 2021, everyone – of all ages and abilities – was invited to take on a challenge around the number 100 anytime and anywhere. These were the challenges that our fundraisers took on:

Helen Keegan made 101 things with fabric which included:

  • 14 shopping bags
  • 10 hair bows
  • 20 makeup wipes
  • 24 lavender bags
  • 7 small embroideries
  • 26 mug rugs

Helen is still sending out these items to her sponsors and the rest will go to local charity shops. If you would like to receive any of these items then please get in touch by donating to Helen’s fundraiser here.

“The arts can have so many barriers, especially for older people. I appreciate that Magic Me is breaking down those barriers and using the arts to create meaningful connections between younger and older people.” – Helen Keegan

Deborah Mason, our communication manager took on her own unique challenge by drawing 100 portraits in 50 hours. She successfully completed the challenge thanks to hosts of volunteer sitters and people sending in photos for her to draw from. You can see all the portraits here.

Deborah continues to draw portraits for people on her waiting list (that didn’t make the 100) at a more leisurely pace, so please continue to support her to the end by clicking here.

Stronger Together

Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter Hannah and grandson Benjie were part of the launch of the UN Ageism report, they spoke passionately about intergenerational connection and how important this was to Captain Tom.

“If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life and health are precious, and that people of all ages are valuable.” – WHO Director-General

Intergenerational connection is at the heart of what we do. For over 30 years, we have been bringing younger and older people together in a meaningful and creative way. Based in East London, we work with many younger and older people of diverse cultural communities, often livening parallel lives and who might not ordinarily meet.

Creating More Connections

With the huge changes brought by Covid-19, we have been working with our care homes’ and schools’ partners to find new ways to meet, create and party, at a distance. Since April 2020, we have made connections with over 450 people through regular check-in phone calls, virtual cuppa meetings and creative activity packs.

All the money raised through this challenge is supporting our older and younger people. Help us to build a brighter, stronger and well-connected community for them.

If you feel inspired by our fundraisers, please see how you can support us in other ways and take on your own fundraising challenge!
