Volunteers Week 2019 – Celebrating our Volunteers: Hannah

It’s Volunteers Week 2019 and we asked some of our most regular party go-ers what motivates them to be involved in the Cocktails project. Thank you all for sharing your stories and for your commitment and dedication to Cocktails! Every single volunteer is important to us. We hope these stories will inspire you and if you are interested in volunteering with us check out our Volunteering section here.

Hannah tells us about her time on the Cocktails project:
“I have been a volunteer for Magic Me at the Westport Care Centre at Limehouse for over a year now and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences. I remember attending my first party going alone feeling very nervous but within 5 minutes I knew it was something I was going to love and enjoy.

I love seeing the residents enjoy themselves, learn new things and keeping their mind and bodies active – there are particular residents which always get up dancing and singing (which they can actually do better than me). They always have the most amazing stories to tell which you can sometimes relate to which allows you to find a common ground and even if you cannot relate it really makes you realise what an amazing life they’ve had.

Being a 22 year old working in the City of London you can sometimes lose sight of the things around you, I wanted to do something to help make someone else’s life better and I felt Magic Me was the perfect way to do this. Originally I thought this experience would benefit and help the residents better their lives , however, this has helped me in more ways than one and the main thing being to enjoy and live my life to the fullest!

The Residents, Carers and other volunteers are the most welcoming, friendly and fun people and really makes you feel part of a care home family – I will forever cherish the memories I have from this experience!”

Thank you Hannah! We couldn’t do it without you!
