Voices Across Time
A new film created by students and older women in East London
Voices Across Time is the latest film in Magic Me’s ongoing partnership with the Mulberry Schools Trust, bringing together younger and older women to explore stories of inspiration, strength and connection across generations.
“I loved every minute of it. We got comfy with each other, after being a group of strangers. We even sang together!”
(Older woman)
Over six weeks, 15 students from Mulberry School for Girls (Tower Hamlets) and Connaught School for Girls (Waltham Forest) collaborated with nine older women from their local communities to uncover and celebrate their modern-day and historical “Sheroes” — the women who inspire them, both everyday and extraordinary.
Guided by Magic Me Associate Artists Chuck Blue Lowry (filmmaker), Laila Sumpton (poet), Amanda Mascarenhas (set designer) and Jessica Roch (sound artist), the group shared stories, crafted poems, created visual and sound design, and explored what it means to be a woman making a difference in East London today.
This year’s project shines a light on the power of storytelling, celebrating not only the women who made history but also the local women whose everyday acts of creativity, resilience and care continue to shape our communities.
The film is now complete and will be premiered at a public screening in Spring 2026 — stay tuned for details on the event and how to join us in celebrating the incredible voices behind this project.
