Freya Wynn-Jones is a director, singer and maker working across a wide range of professional, educational and community settings. Recent credits include directing English National Opera’s Youth Company in sections from Towards Another World at the Opera For All Gala (London Coliseum, 2018), A Day Dawns with the Royal Opera House Youth Opera Company (Bridewell Theatre, 2018), Noye’s Fludde for Lichfield Festival (Lichfield Cathedral, 2018) and Trench Brother’s for HMDT Music (Brighton Dome, 2018). Freya also recently directed the world premiere of hunger (Lilian Baylis House, 2017), alongside Helios Collective and ENO
Current roles include working as Associate Artist for the Royal Opera House’s Youth Company, directing Aurora Orchestra’s Far Far Away series for 0-4 years (Kings Place, London) running the Brighton Branch of The Choir With No Name for people who have experienced homelessness and other marginalised groups. She is the co-founder of Voicings Collective and, in 2018, she was also recognised as Spitalfields Open Call Artist devising new work for a cross-discipline vocal ensemble titled Same Sun.
Alongside her ongoing work with the ENO and ROH, and with a particular interest in the relationship between theatre and vocal art, Freya works with companies across the country including Glyndebourne Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera, Mahogany Opera and The Southbank Centre.
Freya has a wealth of experience as a workshop leader and facilitator, creating accessible and meaningful ways into repertoire and constantly endeavouring to find the best connection between the participant and art form. She has worked with babies, young people, elders, people living with a dementia, people with a learning disability, vulnerable children from looked after backgrounds and people who have experienced homelessness. She has worked with partners including the NSPCC, Heart and Soul, Magic Me, The National Spinal Injuries Clinic, Carousel and Street Wise Opera.
Freya strongly believes in developing talent and in 2017 she ran a facilitation training weekend for English National Opera and The Royal Opera House to train the next generation of facilitators on delivering best practise and recently spent a week as a Visiting Artist on the MA in Opera Making at The Guildhall School Of Music And Drama.
