This project is an opportunity for us older people to see the future grow in front of our eyes. These youth are the seeds. We elders are just helping with a bit of watering.

About the project

As one of the five boroughs to host the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympics Games, Hackney is undergoing a period of change. In a series of oral history interviews, local residents shared the changes to their lives brought about by the Olympics.

A group of younger people from the Hackney Empire worked with a group of local older people and Magic Me artists Surya Turner and Emma Higham using their own experiences and the oral history transcripts in a series of creative workshops. The group shared their work in a public performance on 17th May at Hackney Museum.

As adults, you forget how to play. This project has reminded us how to do that.
