It’s Volunteers Week 2018 and we are showcasing some of our volunteer’s stories here on the website. Every single volunteer is important to us but we hope these stories will inspire you and if you are interested in volunteering with us check out our Volunteering section here
Cocktails volunteer Tariq tells us about what motivates him to get involved:
“It is rare to find opportunities in London to volunteer in a flexible manner around your timetable and this is undoubtedly one of the main reasons I have loved working with Magic Me. I have found the Cocktails project to be the perfect way to make a small difference to the lives of others in my community. I have always been fascinated as to how a drink can bring people together so a project like this that uses this concept in such a thoughtful, intuitive and down-right fun way has been an honor to be a part of.
I have volunteered at a few parties at Pat Shaw (Stepney), Silk Court (Bethnal Green) and George Mason (Leytonstone) each bringing their own vibe and amazing characters. One memorable moment that sticks out to me was the satisfaction I received when putting the communication skills I learned from a Magic Me workshop into action for the first time. With one resident, we found common ground and got chatting about football and all the sports we loved and it felt like we could’ve talked until the cows came home.”
